What is Contour Light and How does it work?
Contour Light, also known as Red Light Therapy, is a revolutionary red light treatment system, that activates the body’s natural healing response. It stimulates the mitochondria to energize and cleanse the cells, while triggering the lymphatic system to detoxify the body. It incorporates 6 LED pads with a proprietary reflective surface which traps and redirects the light energy back into the tissue.
The Contour Light System is based on a technology that was initially researched by NASA to maintain the health of astronauts while in space and was discovered to be effective for circumferential reduction (inch loss) by a Columbian surgeon. The surgeon found that by exposing his patients to mid 600nm light prior to a liposuction procedure, the fat was much easier to extract without heat or discomfort. Subsequent testing indicated the light energy caused a photobiostimulation of the fat cell mitochondria, starting a chain reaction that opens transient pores in the cell membrane and releases the cell contents into the interstitial region of the body. Under a microscope, it was observed that the cells appeared to deflate and transform from a “grape to a raisin”. This action results in a reduction of the circumference of the treated area of a client’s body.
Results can be achieved with exposure to the light alone, and when a Contour Light treatment is coupled with a protocol of diet and exercise, it acts as an accelerant to a weight loss program to deliver the best possible outcomes. Contour Light treatment provides a relaxing and comfortable experience for clients seeking an improvement in their health, well-being and appearance.
Benefits of Red Light Therapy
- Muscle Recovery: Red Light Therapy can be a valuable tool for athletes and individuals engaged in physical activities. By enhancing cellular energy production in muscles, it may accelerate muscle recovery after intense workouts or injuries. This can lead to reduced muscle soreness, improved performance, and a quicker return to physical activity.
- Weight Loss: Red Light Therapy aids in weight loss, especially when done twice a week. Many clients also report a decrease in inches.
- Improved Sleep: Red Light Therapy has shown promise in improving sleep quality by regulating the body's circadian rhythm. Exposure to red light in the evening can help suppress the production of melatonin, making it easier to fall asleep at the desired bedtime. Conversely, morning exposure can enhance alertness and energy levels by boosting melatonin production.
- Pain Management: It is effective in reducing pain associated with various conditions, including arthritis, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain syndromes. By reducing inflammation and promoting the release of endorphins, it can offer natural pain relief.
- Skin Rejuvenation: Red Light Therapy stimulates collagen production and increases blood flow to the skin, leading to improved skin tone, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, improved acne, and a more youthful appearance. It also helps to heal scars and wounds.
- Reduced Inflammation: It can help mitigate inflammation throughout the body, offering relief for individuals with chronic inflammatory conditions.
- Mood and Cognitive Benefits: Some studies suggest that Red Light Therapy may enhance mood and cognitive function by improving mitochondrial function in brain cells, potentially aiding in mental well-being.
- Hair Growth: It can reduce the effects of androgenetic alopecia, the most common form of hair loss cause. By decreasing inflammation and increasing blood flow and circulation to the scalp, it has the potential to bring more cell activity and nutrients to that area. Studies have also shown the using Red Light Therapy may promote increased hair thickness.
How quickly does Contour Light work and what results can I expect?
Results can be seen immediately. Individual results vary.
How long is a Contour Light treatment and what does it feel like?
Clients can expect to feel a gentle, warm sensation. The treatment is 25 minutes.
What areas of the body can I treat?
Essentially all parts of the body where subcutaneous deposits of fat can be found may be treated with Contour Light, especially those resistant to diet and exercise.
What are the side effects?
There are zero side effects. The treatment is painless and normal activities can be resumed immediately.
Why should clients avoid alcohol during the Contour Light process?
There are three main reasons why alcohol should be avoided with Contour Light:
- Alcohol is a diuretic and it is critical that the body stays optimally hydrated throughout the treatment program.
- Alcohol also contains a lot of calories: a 5-ounce glass of red wine packs 100 calories! This directly conflicts with the recommendations of the program which calls for a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
- Third and most importantly, alcohol is processed as fat by the liver which directly restricts the body’s ability to process the newly liberated fat. Once liberated by Contour Light, the fat that is not used up as energy to fuel the body’s normal metabolic needs is processed by the liver using enzymes. The total amount of fat being processed at any given time is limited by the amount of enzymes produced by the liver. Alcohol is processed as fat by the liver using the same enzymes. So, when the liver is busy processing alcohol, it is not able to process the fat liberated by Contour Light. Hence more time/treatments are required to achieve results.
What are the contraindications?
The major contraindications for the use of light therapy are diseases that involve the retina of the eye, such as diabetes, and the use of photosensitizing medications like lithium, melatonin, phenothiazine antipsychotics, and certain antibiotics.
